Macronutrient Content in European Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) Seedlings Grown in Differently Compacted Peat Substrates in a Container Nursery

چکیده
The macroelement (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulfur, calcium, and magnesium) contents in individual parts of 1-year-old seedlings (leaves, shoots, root system) the common beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) were investigated. grown nine different densities peat substrate (0.196–0.317 g cm−3) 265 cm3 containers. It was found that compaction influenced content seedlings. With an increase compaction, there a decrease leaves (except for N). derived from this study compared to optimal indicated literature. Studies have shown availability Mg is great importance growth least-compacted allowed best seedlings, which translated into higher uptake, resulting better dry-mass shoot ratio. Our findings confirmed lowest (0.196 cm−3 actual density) containing dolomite cultivating under foliar fertilization

Studies on European beech (Fagus sylvatica L
Colour parameters of European beech were measured using CIELab system. 103 logs from 87 trees in 9 sites were cut into boards to study the variations of wood colour parameters. Both site and tree effect on colour were observed. Patterns of red heartwood occurrence were defined. When excepting red heartwood there was still a highly significant effect of site and tree; differences remained after ...
متن کاملVariation in Ecophysiological Traits and Drought Tolerance of Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) Seedlings from Different Populations
Frequency and intensity of heat waves and drought events are expected to increase in Europe due to climate change. European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) is one of the most important native tree species in Europe. Beech populations originating throughout its native range were selected for common-garden experiments with the aim to determine whether there are functional variations in drought stress ...
متن کاملDesiccation and Mortality Dynamics in Seedlings of Different European Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) Populations under Extreme Drought Conditions
European beech (Fagus sylvatica L., hereafter beech), one of the major native tree species in Europe, is known to be drought sensitive. Thus, the identification of critical thresholds of drought impact intensity and duration are of high interest for assessing the adaptive potential of European beech to climate change in its native range. In a common garden experiment with one-year-old seedlings...
متن کاملPredicting red heartwood formation in beech trees (Fagus sylvatica L.)
Beech-forests (Fagus sylvatica L.) represent the natural vegetation cover for the majority of sites in Germany. Although coniferous forests actually dominate, beech is the most important among the deciduous tree-species in Germany, when considering the area and the economics. While the wood of the younger beech normally shows a whitish colour (white beech), the timber of older beech may form co...
متن کاملRelationship between Empty Seed and Genetic Factors in European Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.)
The relationship between percentage of empty seed (Pes) and genetic factors was explored in an isolated stand of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.). Nine allozyme loci (GOT-B, IDH-A, LAP-A, MDH-B, MDH-C, MNR-A, 6-PGDH-A, PGI-B and PGM-A) were used to estimate genetic factors. Pes ranged from 4.8% to 40.9% for seed samples of 91 trees within the stand and showed an approximate normal distributi...
